Atlanta Airport - The Busiest Airport in the World

Both terminals are connected to the six concourses by an Automated People Mover System (APM). This user friendly system carries in excess of 200,000 people a day and operates round the clock. Passenger information is conveniently displayed in English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Arabic.

Delta Airlines has its largest hub here, with over 50% of passengers passing through Hartsfield-Jackson’s doors. AirTran Airways and Atlantic Southeast Airlines also share hub status. Budget carriers such as Spirit Airlines and Frontier are well represented. The airport services flights from North, South and Central America, Europe, Asia and Africa. It is a main connection point for flights to and from smaller Southern United States communities.

The airport is 7 miles (11 kilometers) from Atlanta’s city core and is surrounded by Interstates 75, 85 and 285. The complex network of freeways makes the car the transportation of choice in the region. If you choose to rent a car, there are plenty of well placed signs to help you reach downtown. On the downside, workday commute hour traffic is very bad. If you find you must park at the airport, rates can run as much as $28 USD per day in a lot right in front of the terminal to as little as $9 USD for a park and ride lot.

For passengers choosing not to drive, there are several efficient options. MARTA, the city’s rapid transit system has its own above ground station at Hartsfield-Jackson. It is inside the west end of the main building between the two terminals and easily accessed by the atrium passenger area. The Ground Transportation Center is just outside the west end of the two terminals. Taxis and limos can be arranged here. Some hotels offer free shuttle service, and pick up is in this same area. White courtesy phones allow you to check on shuttle arrival and departure times.
